Jaylib photo on Last.fm

Scott Dukes Photography, photo of Jaylib on Last.fm

I’ve been listening to music on Last.fm lately due to Pandora recently adding a 40hr/month limit on free streaming. Pandora does seem to have a better rotation of music, but I dig how Last.fm has info and a photo slideshow on each artist. Oddly enough when a Jaylib song came on, while listening to the De La Soul station, my photo of them popped up! Pretty neat if anything, but makes me wonder what the legalities of this are? Looks as if images are uploaded and tagged by users at their will. Might be something to look into, as hundreds of other photographer’s images are on rotation as well!

It’s getting hot in hurr

Scott Dukes Photography photo of Station Fire in Angeles National Forest

Triple digit heat, winds and close to 0% humidity means it’s that unfortunate time of the year here in Southern California. Though fire season seems to be damn near year round now, it seems like Los Angeles County had dodged the bullet until this week. Here are a couple photos I snapped last night in the midst of being a looky-loo. This is the Station Fire, seen from Pasadena, burning along Angeles Crest Hwy. on the front ranges of the San Gabriel Mountains above La Cañada. My thoughts go out to those affected, and especially to the men and women who put their lives at risk fighting the flames.

Super Street - Honda Civic and Lexus IS300

Scott Dukes Photography Honda Civic cover image for Super Street Magazine

The new issue of Super Street just hit the stands, and was fortunate to have the cover feature for this one. Nothing but Hondas this time around, it brings back bittersweet memories of my Integra! Check out the cover image before its makeover, as well as a few photos from a feature in the past issue, after the jump!

Scott Dukes Photography shoots Rare Breed Motorcycle Club for RIDES Magazine

Working with RIDES magazine has lead to shooting some stuff I most likely wouldn’t have come across otherwise, which is a good thing! Catering to many, that opens the door to what we have here - Rare Breed. They’re a seasoned Harley club based here in Los Angeles. Been at it since 1989! This was my first go at shooting motorcycles, let alone a motorcycle club. Was definitely fun mixing in some lifestyle portraiture on top of shooting the motorcycles themselves. Above is the opening spread for the article, and after the jump is the image sans the layout and some portraits that didn’t make it to print.

Bye, Bye, Blue

Scott Dukes Photography Nissan 370Z for 0-60 Magazine.

After drawing some inspiration from those super nice Aston Martin DBS PR images, I was convinced that the original blue color of the 370Z was too strong. I did have some initial thoughts about it, but finally got around to taking it into the digital paint booth. Given the overall tone of the image, I’m thinking this flows much better. Thoughts? There’s a link above to a previous version of the image on my Flickr page for comparison.

Portfolio Update

Figured I drop a line about the two images I recently added to the auto portfolio. Both were shot for 0-60 Magazine, the Nissan 370Z on location (but retouched a good bit) at a track in Pennsylvania, and the Hyundai Genesis out in the Mojave Desert.

Bleacher Bummin’

Last night we - and 49,996 others - headed over to Dodger Stadium to take advantage of free parking and watch some interleague play against the Oakland A’s. We decided to sit in the party zone (left field pavilion) for some guaranteed extra excitement, and were given just that.
